Foraging Expert
You may be a mycology and foraging enthusiast, always rooting around for mushrooms, herbs and leaves to spice up the family meal at home. Research your local area at the library or learn with an online group to expand the breadth of your knowledge and deep-down facts. At the weekend, encourage people in your network to come on walks with you looking for free foods in the woods and meadows, and explain how these can be used in everyday cooking. These trips could be charged at £5 each and with a group of 10 people this might be a good morning’s work. When your business has grown to a respectable level, begin offering your services to local restaurants. On quiet days, a restaurant might let you work out of one of their kitchens. A foraging trip in the morning could then become a food preparation lesson in the afternoon using the ingredients you have gathered and enjoying a gourmet hand-picked lunch. The restaurant gets customers through the door on a quiet day, which becomes a regular event. You may well be able to expand the business to become a management training course for businesses looking for a different bonding session for their staff. Remember to get your clients to sign a liability waiver just in case the mushroom they pick turns out to be different to the one in your book.

This idea was recently flagged up to me by my good friend Mike Thomson at onebrightday.co.uk who wished there was a service liked this in the UK to feed his hunger for free, seasonal, tasty food.
